2020 SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS
THE SHINING | 125 minutes | Starring JACK NICHOLSON, Directed by Stanley Kubrick
"From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, director Stanley Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing settings, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone of the macabre. In a signature role, Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, who's come to the elegant, isolated Overlook Hotel as off-season caretaker with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd). Torrance has never been there before - or has he? The answer lies in a ghostly time warp of madness and murder."
Preceding the screening join us for the fan favorite "flannel casual" Red Carpet Reception with a performance by Phil DuMond, as well as hors d’Oeuvres and a cash bar by Skewed Brewing.
DOCUMENTING THE NORTH COUNTRY | 60 minutes | Screening and Panel with filmmaker Michael Devine
Two short films by North Country filmmaker Michael Devine & Jean Ulysses. The Michigan presents a northern New York cultural history--of American migration, meat sauce, and the end of the family farm--stretching from Coney Island to the Canadian border: The Michigan is the story of ties that bind, recipes that endure, and the onions that bring a tear to the eye. [Made by two migrants to the area--an English prof from UCLA [M.Devine] and his Quebec-Haitian student [J.Ulysse], the film gives an outside look at how outsiders have changed the culture of northern New York.]
Followed by Panel with filmmaker Michael Devine.
STOP MOTION ANIMATION | 60 minutes | Screening and panel with filmmakers Daniel and Derek Morrow
Screening of three, short, stop-motion animated films - Comet (5:31), Token Hearts (9:05) and When Counting Flamingos To Sleep (10:20) produced by brother filmmakers Dan and Derek Morrow.
Followed by a panel discussion with the award winning North Country filmmakers Dan and Derek Morrow.
ICE PALACE, A LOVE LETTER | 80 minutes | Directed by Mark C. Burns
A story of tradition, redemption and rebirth in the Adirondack mountains of New York State. Filmed during the extreme winter of 2016 - Ice Palace, A Love Letter follows the Ice Palace Workers 101, and a distinctive group of convicted felons from the Moriah Shock Correctional Facility, as they team up to build the historic Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Ice Palace. Since 1897, the Winter Carnival has functioned as an affirmation of community, and a nod to a unique way of life in an isolated and beautiful corner of the Adirondacks. Ice Palace, A Love Letter is a celebration of Americana — and Ice.
Followed by panel filmmaker Mark C. Burns
MARTINI BOY FILMS / BY THE GLASS PICTURES | 70 minutes | Directed by Loring Murtha
